Mountain View High School is proud to welcome Coach Mark Paredes as the new head coach of the Vikings football team. After taking a break from coaching to focus on family—caring for his grandson and parents—Coach Paredes is ready to return to the game and lead the Vikings into an exciting new era.
Describing this opportunity as a “brave new world,” Paredes brings a wealth of coaching experience, including multiple CIF-SS championships from his previous teams. With a deep passion for the game and a commitment to developing disciplined athletes, he is eager to elevate the program and inspire the next generation of Viking football players.
The excitement surrounding his arrival is shared by the entire Viking community, with Aron Sepulveda, Director of Student Affairs, emphasizing the significance of this hire:
“Hiring Coach Mark Paredes is a monumental moment for Mountain View High School. Our Viking community is extremely fortunate to have our football program led by one of the all-time greatest high school football coaches in the history of the San Gabriel Valley.
Coach Paredes is a three-time CIF champion head coach who compiled an 84-14 record in eight years as head coach, which is phenomenal. He achieved the highest level of results, leading Bishop Amat to the CIF Southern Section Division I championship in 1992 and becoming the first team in California to go 15-0. In addition, Coach Paredes won two CIF championships in 1995 and 2001 as head football coach at JW North of Riverside.”
Sepulveda further expressed his confidence in Paredes’ leadership, stating, “Coach Paredes is undoubtedly the most accomplished and experienced coach our school has ever hired, and we are collectively grateful that he has decided to impart his wisdom and expertise for the benefit of our student-athletes. We will support Coach Paredes to the fullest.”
The excitement is shared by Boys Athletic Director Angel Lopez, who highlights the positive momentum already building under Paredes’ leadership:
“Coach Paredes has started spring football, and everything is looking good. We’re all excited for this upcoming football season and a new chapter of Mountain View football,” says Lopez, reflecting the anticipation surrounding this new era. With fresh leadership and renewed energy, everyone is eager to turn the page and begin an exciting new chapter for the program.
As the Vikings embark on this new journey, the addition of Paredes and his coaching staff brings high expectations for the season ahead. The team looks forward to building a strong, competitive program under his leadership.
We can’t wait to see the impact Coach Paredes will have both on and off the field. Best of luck to him, his staff, and the entire team as they prepare for what promises to be an exciting and successful season!
